Area Code Dialing

There are some areas that require you to dial the area code for local calling. This document will help you setup your modem to dial the area code.

1) Find the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop.

2) Double-click on Internet Explorer to open it. Close connection dialogs that open up (if any). Click on the Tools menu at the top and select Internet Options.

3) You will see the Internet Options dialog window.

4) Select the Connections tab.

5) Select your dial up connection and choose Settings.

6) Click on the Properties button.

7) Be sure that Use Dialing Rules is selected and your area code shows in the Area Code box, as shown above. Then select the Dialing Rules button.

8) This will bring up the Phone and Modem Options dialog window. Select My Location (it should be the one with your area code listed) and choose Edit.

9) From the Edit Location window, select the Area Code Rules tab.

10) Click on New...

11) Enter in your Area Code and at the bottom of the window, select the Dial box along with the Include Area Code box.

Note: The customer is responsible for any long distance charges accrued. PC's Unlimited and Totalusa.net will not be liable for any long distance charges from your phone company.

12) Click OK to return to the Area Code Rules tab. Then select the General tab and note at the bottom that the phone number is listed to dial correctly (e.g. in this case it would dial 1-435-774-0110).

13) Click OK until you return to Internet Explorer and your homepage. Now your modem will dial the area code with any new connection you create.
